Randall is originally from St. Louis, Missouri where, during high school he began studying pipe organ under a doctoral student at Washington University. Randall continued with church music in college, studying pipe organ and choral directing and graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in education and church music from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois. After college, Randall served Lutheran congregations in Chicago and Kansas as teacher, organist, and choir director. Although changing careers to information technology, earning a Master’s degree in IT management from Webster University, and moving to several midwestern cities, Randall continued serving as a choir member and substitute organist at his home congregations.
In 2017, Randall responded to the Holy Spirit’s call to ministry and began work toward a Master of Divinity degree at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. In October 2018, Randall took an early retirement from his IT career to focus on ministerial studies and service.
Randall is married to Barbara Mathis Miller, the Director of Orchestras at North Kansas City High School. Randall and Barbara met at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, Missouri, where he was serving as organist and choir accompanist and she sang in the choir. They have two sons, Stuart and Colin, who are both in college and finishing Master’s degrees in engineering fields.
Randall is delighted to have “returned to his musical roots” and excited to be serving in the music ministry at Northminster.
