The JOY group was formed as a community service to the senior citizens of the northland area in 1989. Many members of the JOY group belong to churches other than Northminster Presbyterian. Average attendance is about 75 people consisting of couples as well as single men and women. Cost of the luncheon is $ 2.00. Dress is informal. A luncheon meeting is held at noon on the first Thursday of each month.
The group is divided into 6 "teams" who take turns preparing the meat dish and handling the preparation and clean up. The balance of the meal is "pot luck" but if you are attending for the first time, do not bring a dish. Be our guest. There is a program at each meeting. The programs vary each month from local musical talent, area high school musical groups, and informative speakers. Overnight trips of 2 to 4 days have become very popular and we try to have one or more each year. In addition, day trips to the Royals ball games, local play houses, and other points of interest are held several times a year.
