As an outreach program of Northminster Presbyterian Church, the goal of Northminster Preschool is to work with young children in an effort to foster and develop attitudes and skills that will support future learning. What a child sees, hears, smells, tastes, and touches are personal sources of information about the world in which he/she lives. Based upon information our students gain through our preschool and from interaction with the other children, they develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge that assist in life-long learning. (Due to the quality of the program we now are getting students whose parents have gone through the Northminster Preschool program.)
EARLY LEARNERS
9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Through various play and hands-on activities, our program for 3 and 4 year- olds develops the students’ abilities in oral expression, creative thinking cooperation, number recognition, directional language, visual discrimination, large muscle coordination and other “preschool” skills.
PRE KINDERGARTEN
MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Our Pre Kindergarten program expands on our Early Learning Program and provides letter and sound recognition, name printing, rhyming sets, opposites, categorizing, patterning, and other skills needed for a good start in Kindergarten.
I wonder if we should have a new hading here
In addition, we offer our pre kindergarten students special classes in the afternoon: beginning Spanish, sign language, music, cooking once a month, physical education, and computer. Our new computer lab will enable our early learners and pre kindergarten students to have more one-on-one computer time.
Teachers combine listening, following directions, and self-expression in an effort to help children create projects that will reinforce the skills and themes being taught. Individuality and social skills such as caring, self-control, sharing, responsibility, manners and a cooperative spirit are all attributes encouraged and reinforced throughout every aspect of our curriculum.
Along with guest speakers and special activity days, the students take several field trips. Some places we have visited: Aldredge Apple Orchard, Red Barn Farm, Carolyn’s Pumpkin Patch, Burr-Oaks Nature Sanctuary, The Children’s Museum, Ibsen Children’s Theater, Mid-Continent Library, and the Fire Station.
